Method of using a transition metal alkylidene complex as a reaction catalyst, the synthesis of cyclic polymers are provided. Here, the complex contains a cyclic group. The polymerization intermediate linear is not generated and conducted on the catalyst using the cyclic olefin monomers undergo a ring insertion polymerization. Following completion of the polymerization, the enzyme complex is regenerated cyclic polymer, and, separated from this complex through the intramolecular chain transfer reactions. The present invention provides a cyclic hydrocarbon useful as a novel enzyme, and a transition metal alkylidene complex, in the new process.
