PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new substance which is alumino-germanate containing a trivalent transition metal ion such as Fe and Cr, and a method for synthesizing phenol by an oxidation reaction of benzene, which is hardly achieved up to now, by using the alumino-germanate having a nanometer-sized tubular structure and catalysis function.;SOLUTION: In the method for synthesizing phenol, the trivalent transition metal-containing alumino-germanate shown by the chemical formula: GeO2-(xR2O3-(1-x)Al2O3)-2H2O (wherein R is a trivalent transition metal ion; x is the molar ratio of R to the total amount of R and Al) is added to a benzene-containing liquid as a catalyst.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
