PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic material that makes variation in spectrum, refractive index, or polarization state with high sensitivity and efficiently absorbs two photons, i.e. an organic material having large two photon absorption sectional area.;SOLUTION: Disclosed is a two photon absorbing material which has a two photon absorbing material expressed by general formula (I) as a basic structure.
