PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environmentally friendly catalyst being widely and effectively used as an acid catalyst available for an acid catalyst conversion reaction of an organic compound.;SOLUTION: The polymer catalyst comprises a polymer sulfonic acid in which an aromatic ring has a side chain of a structure that it is continued by an electron attractive linking group. The side chain may be a branched side chain and a non-branched side chain and is preferably the branched side chain. The electron attractive linking group is selected from -CO-, -CONH-, -(CF₂)_p- (p is an integer of 1-10), -C(CF₃)₂-, -COO-, -SO- or -SO₂-.
