PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a removal apparatus for a volatile organic substance in which a polymer is dissolved by absorbing VOC and a VOC sensor or the like utilizing variation of its physical property value is assembled, and to provide a detection method for the volatile organic substance in the removal apparatus. PSOLUTION: A volatile organic substance detection means 10 of the volatile organic substance removal apparatus is provided with a reaction part 12 comprising a volatile organic substance dissolving polymer material, a stress loading means 16 for loading tension or pressing force to the reaction part, a stress variation detection means 18 for detecting stress variation of the reaction part, an action control means 20 for controlling action of the volatile organic substance removal apparatus according to detection of stress variation.
