Development of a Primer on Well Water Sampling for Volatile Organic Substances

A primer was written as a guide for establishing and implementing a program for sampling volatile organic compounds (VOC's) in drinking water wells. In addition to providing a simple review of the principles of ground-water movement and water well construction, the document summarizes the principal sources of VOC's in ground water and describes the importance of sampling water wells to detect the presence of health threatening chemicals. The document outlines approaches for developing a sampling protocol.
