computer-implemented methods for determining three independent angles specifying orientation of electromagnetic receptors in a marine electromagnetic data survey, and for producing hydrocarbons from an underground region
COMPUTER IMPLEMENTED METHODS TO DETERMINE THREE INDEPENDENT ANGLES SPECIFYING ORIENTATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RECEIVERS IN A MARINE ELECTROMAGNETIC DATA SURVEY, AND TO PRODUCE HYDROCARBONES FROM LEAVING A REGION. Method to completely specify orientation of electromagnetic receivers placed on the ocean floor in an electromagnetic data survey. Survey data from addos are selected, rejecting noisy data with long deviations and data where the receiver is saturated with short deviations (61). A model is developed comprising three independent receiver orientation angles completely specifying the receiver's orientation in three dimensions, and a ground resistivity model including a water layer and possibly a rectangular area layer (62). Maxewll's equations applied to the model and the selected data are then inverted to determine the orientations of the receiver (63).
