The present invention relates to cathodes (1) for aluminum electrolysis cells consisting of cathode blocks (4) and current collecting bars (2) attached to these blocks, while cathode slots (3) ( 1) receiving the collecting bar (2) have a deeper depth in the center than on both side edges of the cathode block (4). In addition, the collecting bar thickness (2) is higher in the center than on both side edges of the cathode block (4). This cathode design (1) provides a more uniform current distribution and thus a longer service life of such cathodes (1) and increased cell productivity.
