摘要
A simple process has been invented for the synthesis of an aluminum hydroxide sol which may be used for the removal of fluoride from contaminated water sources. Solid aluminum hydroxide may be used as the starting material though aluminum hydroxide may also be prepared from aluminum salt solutions through precipitation. An aqueous mixture of aluminum hydroxide is peptized with an acid to a pH of 3.0 that results into stabilization of the suspension making it semi-transparent. One may use HCI, HN03 and CH3COOH at varying concentrations for the purpose of peptization. Heating the mixture up to 70°C expedites the suspension stabilization time though it may be obtained even without warming. Warming also lowers the acid requirement. The synthesized aluminum hydroxide sol can efficiently remove fluoride from contaminated waters.
