PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF CALCIUM PHOSPHATE GRANULES OF THE HYDROXYAPATITE TYPE

A process for preparation of a calcium phosphate in the form of granules displaying an X-ray diffraction pattern of hydroxyapatite by hydrolysis of a brushite dicalcium phosphate, comprising adding to an aqueous suspension of brushite dicalcium phosphate lime in an amount sufficient to achieve a Ca/P molar ratio of between 1.5 and 1.7 and a sufficient quantity of a carboxylic acid to adjust the pH of the aqueous suspension to a range between 6 and 10 at room temperature, and heating the mixture at atmospheric pressure, wherein the reaction temperature is between 50°C and 100°C and the amount of acid is in range of 0.005 g acid/ml solution to 1 g acid/ml solution.
