The present invention provides an effective process for treating industrial gas effluents and the reduction of pollutant compounds present in said effluent; more particularly, the invention refers to an industrial process for treating a gas effluent resulting from the process for producing hydroxylamine sulfate containing nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide in order to reduce or substantially remove, in a controlled and continuous manner, the content of nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide from the gas effluent, while a useful aqueous solution of ammonium nitrite is generated.
