A method of driving ions and electrons in a field reversed configuration (FRC) magnetic field where the FRC is generated about an elongate annular rotating plasma beam of ions and electrons that extend axially within a chamber and create an electric potential wave that rotates in the same direction as the azimuthal velocity of ions in the rotating plasma beam.
