Cytokine mediating composition comrpising a denatured protein smaller than 50kDa, zinc chloride, glycine and at least one other metal, metal ion or metal salt thereof

Disclosed is a composition comprising: (i) denatured plasma proteins having molecular weights less than 50kDa as determined by SDS-PAGE; (ii) at least one metal selected from the group consisting of sodium, nickel, copper, cobalt, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, silver and mercury or a metal ion or metal salt thereof; and (iii) zinc chloride and glycine; wherein said composition on contact with a monocyte suppresses TNF-a secretion from said monocyte as compared to a monocyte not contacted with said composition. Further disclosed is a method of manufacturing said composition comprising: (a) mixing plasma with sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3 ) and incubating said mixture for sufficient time and at a temperature of no more than 80oC to produce a precipitate; (b) resolubilising said precipitate in the presence of an aqueous solution at a temperature of between about 80oC and about 150oC, wherein either before, during or after the resolubilising step said at least one metal, metal ion or metal salt thereof is admixed; (c) admixing zinc chloride and glycine; and (d) separating a composition as disclosed herein.
