LACRIMAL IMPLANTS WITH AN ANGLED INTERSECTION BETWEEN ITS SECTIONS SO AS TO BIAS A PORTION OF THE BODY AGAINST THE TISSUE SURFACE

A lacrimal implant 600 insertable into a lacrimal canaliculus, comprises an implant body 602 with first and second portions, the implant body 602 extending from a proximal end of the first portion to a distal end of the second portion. The first portion 604 includes a cavity. A drug insert is disposed in the cavity. The drug insert includes a polymeric matrix with a therapeutic agent dissolved or dispersed in the polymeric matrix, and a sheath body disposed over at least a portion of the polymeric matrix to define at least one insert exposed surface located at or near the proximal end of the first portion implant body. The proximal end of the first portion 604 defines a longitudinal proximal axis and the distal end of the second portion 606 defines a longitudinal distal axis. The implant body 602 is configured such that, when implanted in the lacrimal canaliculus, an angled intersection exists between the proximal axis and the distal axis for biasing at least a portion of the implant body 602 against at least a portion of the lacrimal canaliculus located at or more distal to a canalicular curvature. The second portion 606 of the implant body 602 includes a longitudinal length that has a magnitude less than four times the longitudinal length of the first portion of the implant body 602.
