The invention relates to an apparatus and a method for investigating the sensory facial nerve. The claimed apparatus comprises a DC source () applied by means of a vernier potentiometer () to an assembly of bipolar electrodes () as platinum wires with a diameter ranging between 0.8 and 1.2 mm, a length of 10 mm, spaced apart by 6 mm from one another by means of an inert insulating material () with high thermal resistance. The claimed method is based on the comparison between the voltage values applied by means of said apparatus, the bipolar electrode () being placed on the lateral side of the tongue, on the healthy and on the afflicted sides, respectively, at 1.5 cm from the tongue tip till the patient feels the metal taste.
