A METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING THE SYNDROM OF MALTIPLE ORGAN FAILURE IN THE NEWBORNS

A method for diagnosing the syndrome of multiple organ failure in the newborns comprises the assessment of the state of cardiovascular system, respiratory system, nervous system (brain edema, muscular hypotonia), hematopoietic system, urinary system, gastrointestinal tract as well as the state of metabolism. When at least two organs or systems fail, the functional state of adrenals is assessed by measuring the level of free cortisol in 24-hour urine. When the level of cortisol exceeds the normal values by at least two standard deviations (+2 SD), the adrenal state is considered as compensated insufficiency. When the level of cortisol is below the normal values by at least two standard deviations (2 SD), the adrenal state is considered as non-compensated insufficiency, and the syndrome of multiple organ failure is diagnosed.
