A method for eliminating the acute phase of edema-swelling of the brain comprises the medicamentous treatment in the setting of the forced diuresis. The apparatus-assisted jugular-femoral bypassing is performed with 2-3 cycles from the external jugular vein to the femoral artery with parallel blood cooling (alone or in combination with craniocerebral hypothermia) between the cycles of jugular-femoral bypassing.
