METHOD FOR MODIFYING POROUS STRUCTURE OF NANOPOROUS CARBON MATERIAL

The invention relates to methods for modifying pore sizes in a nanoporous carbon material and, more specifically, to a method for developing the porous structure of a nanoporous carbon material in order to achieve optimal correspondence between the size of pores and the size of ions in special electrolytes so that the material produced using this method can be used in electrochemical double-layer capacitors. According to the invention, the pores of carbon material are first filled (saturated) with a chemical compound or a mixture of several compounds capable of decomposing under high temperature to form gaseous agents or a mixture thereof. The saturated nanoporous carbon material is then heated and kept under the temperature of 700-1000 °C, under which the resultant gaseous agents or a mixture thereof aggravate the inside surface of the pores and increase the size thereof without significant etching the bulk of carbon material. The result is an efficient method for modifying the porous structure of a nanoporous carbon material by aggravating the narrowest pores of a carbon material without unduly scorching the carbon at the surface of the wider pores or of the granules as a whole.
