'KUIH BIJAN' (SESAME CRACKERS) IS A POPULAR MALAY TRADITIONAL FOOD MADE OF GLUTINOUS RICE FLOUR, SUGAR, EGGS AND WATER. IN MANUAL PRODUCTION OF 'KUIH BIJAN', THERE ARE SEVERAL STAGES INVOLVED: DOUGH PREPARATION, SHAPING THE DOUGH, COATING THE DOUGH WITH SESAME AND FINALLY, FRYING THE DOUGH. THE SECOND STAGE, WHICH IS TO FORM THE DOUGH INTO SMALL ROUND SHAPE, HAD BEEN DETECTED AS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART. THIS IS BECAUSE THE DOUGH IS QUITE STICKY AND THUS MAKING THE PROCESS EVEN MORE COMPLICATED. HENCE, 'KUIH BIJAN' MACHINE WAS DESIGNED AND DEVELOPED IN ORDER TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. A 'KUIH BIJAN' MACHINE INTENDED FOR SMALL SCALE INDUSTRY WAS DESIGN AS A BATCH PROCESS AND DIVIDED INTO TWO MAIN FUNCTIONS: SHAPING THE DOUGH AND COATING IT WITH SESAME. THIS PORTABLE MACHINE IS QUITE SMALL AND OCCUPIED A SMALL AREA FOR OPERATION, 0.9M (LENGTH) X 0.35M (WIDTH) X 1.0M (HEIGHT). THE SIMPLE PROCESS OPERATIONS, THE DOUGH OF 'KUIH BIJAN' IS FED INTO THE EXTRUSION SECTION, AND THEN THE DOUGH WAS SHAPING THROUGH A DIE WITH 1 CM IN DIAMETER. THE STAINLESS STEEL BLADE WAS CUT THE DOUGH AND THE 'KUIH BIJAN' BALL IS COLLECTED AND COATED WITH SESAME IN THE ROTATING DRUM. THE OPTIMUM SPEED OF ROTATING DRUM IS 20 RPM. THE 'KUIH BIJAN' MACHINE CAN PROCESS 12 KG OF DOUGH AND PRODUCED ABOUT 12,000 PIECES OF 'KUIH BIJAN'.
