5ABSTRACT Method for the detoxification of liquid, solid and semisolid wastes arising from the production of palm oil, and of other similar organic wastes; use of such method for composting and humification10The production of vegetable oils and the production of cheese, wine, animal products and certain other organic processes have as byproducts odorous toxic wastes. The wastes consist of a significant amount of low toxicity solid and semi-solid components, and high toxicity liquid wastes — "wastewaters" for brevity. A number of physicochemical methods for treating15wastewaters exist.The present invention is a new technique for the treatment of wastewaters. The main new technical aspects consist of1. the production of hydroxyl radicals (OH*) with, inter alia, ozone and air, which20 achieve the detoxification of the toxic substances together with the coagulating action of ferrous sulfate which results in the precipitation of the detoxified substances, while the ferrous sulfate also acts as a catalyst. The key formulas are03+ H20 -1 Fe2+ —*02 +Fel' -1 OH -1 OH (Formula 1)Fe2+ -1 02 —2 Fe3+ -1 02_, (formula 2), and252. the use of the detoxified products together with other agricultural byproducts and,preferably, seaweed also, for composting and humification.The two processes could be applied consecutively or on a stand alone basis depending on technical and commercial grounds.30 The main advantages of the invention compared to other methods used to date are a)the speed of the process, b)the smaller cost of the facilities, c)the increased speed of the composting and humification processes, d)if both parts of the invention are applied, wastewaters are fully detoxified resulting in end products used for fertirrigation and high quality fertilizers, and e) the treatment of the annoying smell of the composting process.35This abstract is accompanied by figure 1.
