The machine has a base body comprising front and rear processing sides, and a tool assembly (14) for processing a workpiece (32) made from metal. A cross-transport device (30) transports the workpiece from the rear processing side to the front processing side through a passage opening. The transport device has a central rail (36) that runs through the passage opening. The transport device stays in force-transmission connection with the tool assembly in such a manner that forces produced during deformation of the workpiece are partially braced by the transport device. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a cylindrical casing from a workpiece made from metal.
