The present invention relates to a new strain of the genus Nannochloris, deposited in the Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa (CCAP) as Nannochloris sp HMS2 (CCAP 251/9) and their use for obtaining extracts rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, obtaining biodiesel and mitigation of CO {sub, 2} to the atmosphere.
