A method for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD) or the stage of AD, said method comprising the following steps: (a) contacting a sample obtained from a patient with probes specifically binding to at least two products cleaving γ-secretase Aß48, Aß45, AB42, and Aß35 Aß38; and (b) determining the amounts of said cleavage products in said sample, which is determined at least Aß38 ratio: AB42, and a minor proportion of Aß38: AB42 compared to a normal ratio indicates the EA.
