Process for producing a functionally gradient component, the method comprising introducing a first material melt in a mold (12); allowing a layer of first material at least partially solidify against a wall of the mold (12); decanting the remaining molten portion of the first material; introducing a second material melt into the mold (12); characterized in that the method further comprises the steps of: remelting the exposed surface of the first material by the addition of the second molten to effect a convention and mix in the contact surface between the first material and the second material to produce a gradual change in microstructure between the first and the second material.
