An effective amount of miR-1, an inhibitor of miR-1, miR-133 and an inhibitor of miR-133 for use in a method for treating a muscle injury in a subject, preferably a mammal, in which miR-133 and an inhibitor of miR-1 are administered in combination to the muscle injury site at a first time point and miR-1 and miR-inhibitor 133 are administered in combination to the muscle injury site at a second moment of time.
