RF and microwave devices and techniques are disclosed forprocessing RP and microwave signals by using (1) photonicor optical components and (2) RP and microwavecomponents. in some implementations, a part of the.processing is performed in the RF and microwave domainsuch as applying a microwave or RF input signal tocontrol an optical modulator and another part of theprocessing is performed in the optical domain such asoptical filtering of the modulated optical beam to selectdesired microwave or RF spectral components. Thefrequency of a selected spectral component can be tunedby either tuning the frequency of the optical beam thatis modulated by the optical modulator or a filter that isused to filter modulated optical beam.
