A computer implemented method is for processing an original digital elevationmodel (DEM) including data for terrain (52) and a plurality of objects (54,56) thereon. The method includes generating a lower-resolution DEM (104) fromthe original DEM (102), and generating an objects-only DEM (108) based upon acomparison of the lower-resolution DEM (104) and the original DEM (102). Themethod further includes reducing noise in the objects-only DEM (114, 116).
