A system and method for providing a context aware call purposeannouncement is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a telephone callfrom a calling party to a called party on a digital telephony network. Anoperational state of the called party's telephone is identified. The callingparty isenabled to create a custom message for the called party when the operationalstate of the called party's telephone is identified as busy. The custommessageis delivered to the called party through the digital telephony network toenablethe called party to determine whether to receive the telephone call from thecalling party.
