MULTI-LAYER STEAM GRID FOR HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER IN A TAILINGS SOLVENT RECOVERY UNIT

A grid of pipes for conducting steam at a pressure greater than avessels' operating pressure and delivering the steam throughout the grid formstheinternals for a tailings solvent recovery unit. The delivery of steamthroughout thegrid aids in maintaining a relatively low partial pressure throughout thevessel to actas a driver for mass transfer. Conducting the steam at the higher pressurethroughthe pipes in the grid permits a surface of the pipes to be heated to atemperaturehigher than possible in a conventional vessel, increasing the heat transfer tothefeed stream which flows through the grid.
