An apparatus (1) for imparting indentations in a slug (3) from which green bricks areformed. The slug (3) is elongate about a longitudinal axis and rectangular intransverse cross section to thereby provide a first and second side face extending parallelto the longitudinal axis, a top face (9) and a bottom face. The first and secondside face intersect with the top face (9) at a first and second edge, respectively. Theapparatus (1) includes a conveyance assembly (25) for conveying the slug (3)in a working direction parallel to the longitudinal axis, and a first and second indentationassembly (29), (31) adjacent to the conveyance assembly (26) for imparting indentationsto the first and second edge of the slug (3), respectively. The apparatus (3) furtherincludes a third indentation assembly (45) for imparting indentations to thetop face (9) of the slug (3); and control means for controlling operation of theconveyance assembly (25) and the first, second and third indentation assembly(29), (31), (45). The indentations imparted to the top face (9) of the slug (3)are aligned with the indentations imparted to the first and second edge.
