The invention comprises a suspension device for railway vehicles, characterised in that it includes: two sub-assemblies (70 and 70A), each sub-assembly containing a soft component (30 and 30A) confined between a cover (20, 20A) and a coupling element (50, 50A), wherein each soft component has two through-channels (31 and 32, 31A and 32A) and the coupling elements (50, 50A) are solidly connected to a central pin (40) acting as a geometric separator between the soft components (30 and 30A). The invention also relates to the specific methodology (200) used to design the device (100) with optimum vehicle performance. This design methodology comprises a set of specialist knowledge areas that are employed using the following steps: a characterisation process (210), geometric modelling of the device in question (220), analysis using the finite element method (230), dynamic evaluation of the system (240), and calculation of the optimum mechanical properties (250).
