The present invention relates to Chlamydomonas, a novel microalga that accumulates high concentrations of functional lipids. The cell strain ArM29 of the present invention is a novel Chlamydomonas and provides the highest level of lipid concentration among all known Chlamydomonas, accumulating similar levels of lipids as Botryococcus braunii, a typical high lipid accumulating microalga. Additionally, ArM29 is a cell strain that can accumulate high concentration levels of lipid at a low temperature (6℃) to the same degree as at room temperature (25℃). In particular, ArM29 cell strain was selected by examining the fatty acid composition and the lipid accumulation form of Chlamydomonas grown in polar (Arctic, Antarctic) oceans and freshwater using GC analysis and nile red dyeing method, analyzing the photosynthesis feature of same using fluorome analysis, selecting a cell strain thereof that accumulates lipid in a lipid body form at high concentration, and examining lipid concentration level thereof according to incubation temperature.
