The present invention discloses a method and system for synchronizing cross units in a network element. Wherein, said method includes: a primary cross unit detects that excitation information has changed (S102); said primary cross unit sends said excitation information to a secondary cross unit (S104); and said secondary cross unit uses said excitation information to determine the switching state and time slot configuration data of said secondary cross unit (S106). Through the present invention, the problem of information dissimilarity existing among multiple cross units using combination cross is well solved, and furthermore small service loss is ensured and the requirement of switching is satisfied.
