A compound represented by formula (1) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, which has an inhibitory effect on photoreceptor cell death in a light-induced damage mouse model and is therefore useful as a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for chorioretinal denaturative diseases that are not substantially accompanied by neovascularization (e.g., atrophic age-related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina) and chorioretinal disorders associated with the aforementioned diseases; a method for preventing or treating the chorioretinal denaturative diseases using a compound represented by formula (1) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; a compound represented by formula (1) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof for use in the prevention or treatment of the chorioretinal denaturative diseases and an intermediate for the production of the compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; and use of a compound represented by formula (1) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof for the production of a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for the chorioretinal denaturative diseases.
