The invention relates to a container 1 with cells 4 for plant material 6, and/or systems and methods involving the transfer of cells 4 containing plant material 6 to larger cells 32 (e.g., without removing the plant material 6 from the cells 4 being transferred to larger cells 32). The container 1 can be used to transport plant material 6. The container has cells 4 formed from biodegradable material. The cell 4 itself can hereby be gripped by a transfer unit 25 during a transfer method and this cell 4 can be placed in a larger cell 32. In addition, the cells 4 of the container 1 can be separated from the rest of the container 1 before the cell 4 is transferred.
