A device for production of high melting glass or glass/ceramics including a vessel (2) for acceptance of a glass melt and a holder (19, 20), where the vessel has a discharge tube (4), where the vessel and the first section of the discharge tube is made from Ir or a material of high Ir content, and the holder is arranged so that the vessel and first discharge tube section are subjected to a protective gas atmosphere to prevent oxidation of Ir or Ir-containing material. Independent claims are included for: (1) a process for preparation of the glass or glass/ceramic involving introduction of the raw material of predetermined composition into the vessel, melting of the material to give a glass melt, and refining of the me (2) a high melting glass or high melting glass/ceramic including (wt.%): SiO 2(80-90), Al 2O 3(0-10), B 2O 3(0-15) and R 2O 3(less than 3).
