A seat belt system comprising a retractor (10) provided with a motor (20) for winding/feeding a seat belt (1), a motor information detecting means (55) for detecting the rotational amount or current level of the motor (20), a first condition detecting means (51) for detecting that an ignition switch is in an off state, a second condition detecting means (52) for detecting the open operation of a door closest to the side of a seat fixed with the seat belt (1), a failure diagnosis timing judging means (53) starting a failure diagnosis operation when detection signals are outputted from the both condition detecting means, and a means (54) performing failure diagnosis on a drive system including the motor based on the output, from the motor information detecting means (55), being delivered in response to a drive current being supplied to the motor (20) when failure diagnosis operation is started. With such an arrangement, failure diagnosis can be carried out without imposing strange feeling to the occupants.
