The invention relates to a method for avoiding undesired, measurement error-induced protective tripping within a protection system of an HVDC transmission system, in which method state variables of components of the HVDC transmission system are detected by first measuring devices so as to obtain a first set of measured values (A) and by further measuring devices, which are designed in redundant fashion with respect to the first measuring devices, so as to obtain further sets of measured values (B), the first set of measured values (A) and the further sets of measured values (B) are supplied to a regulating unit (2a, 2b) and a protective unit (3b, 3a), the protective unit (3a) checking the first set of measured values (A) for the presence of a risk of protective tripping by means of internal logic, and the regulating unit (2b) regulating the HVDC transmission system as a function of one of the further sets of measured values (B), the protective unit (3a), in the event of the presence of a risk of protective tripping, checking one of the further sets of measured values (B) for the presence of switchover conditions and, in the event of the presence of the switchover conditions, switching over to this further set of measured values (B) and checking this further set of measured values (B) for the presence of a risk of protective tripping.
