METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR INSTALLING AND UPGRADING SOFTWARE ON APPLICATION TERMINAL IN HOME NETWORK

The present invention relates to a method and system for installing and upgrading software on an application terminal in a home network. The method comprises: powering on the application terminal and accessing the home gateway; the home gateway automatically sends a software query request to the application terminal, and then starts a timer to wait for a response from the application terminal; if no response is received on time-out, the home gateway sends a software installation request to the application terminal; if a response is received before time-out but the version number contained in the response indicates an earlier software version, the home gateway sends a software upgrade request to the application terminal; and the application terminal performs a software installation or upgrade operation according to the user input. According to the present invention, the state of the software on the application terminal is detected automatically by using the private communication protocol between the home gateway and the application terminal in the home network, and the home gateway sends software data to the application terminal as required for installing or upgrading the software on the application terminal in the home network. This reduces the complexity in the use of the home network for users, reduces the maintenance cost for the carriers, and ensures a better intelligent home network experience for users.
