Method and composition for detection of an increased predisposition to cancers of the breast and the ovary based on the use of the detection of constitutional BRCA1 mutations in combination with a) the measure of a particular selenium concentration and b) the detection of particular germline mutations in particular selenoproteins within the same individual.
