The present invention relates to a method for analyzing seed viability comprising incubating at least one seed in an aqueous solution comprising resazurin and a respiring or fermenting microorganism, and monitoring in said aqueous solution the reduction of the resazurin to resorufin as a result of growth of said microorganism, wherein said seed exhibits reduced viability in case that said reduction is observed.
