Catalyst, in which the active phase comprises at least one metal of the group VIII laid on a support formed by at least one oxide, is new, where the metal of the group VIII is cobalt, nickel, ruthenium or iron, and the catalyst has an atomic ratio, measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, of non-crushed cobalt and aluminum (Co/Al) particles and crushed cobalt and aluminum particles of 1-12. Independent claims are included for: (1) the preparation of (I); and (2) process of synthesizing hydrocarbon using the catalyst.
