A network device and a system and method for autonomously upgrading the network device. The system comprises a user PC, a service backbone network, an application server and a network device. The application server and the network device are connected through the service backbone network. During upgrade, in the system, the network device is configured to: check whether a file in a new version is available on the application server, if yes, detect a service request initiated by the user PC, if a webpage browsing request is detected, process a message initiated by a source address of the webpage browsing request and change a destination address of a webpage browsing protocol to a WEB page address of an upgrade wizard; and download a file in an upgraded version from the application server to the network device according to an operation instruction, of a user through the user PC, on a WEB page of the upgrade wizard. By applying the present invention, the user can autonomously upgrade the network device conveniently, reliability and effectively, thereby greatly reducing upgrade and maintenance costs of the operator and manufacturer.
