The method involves extracting biometric criteria e.g. iris, and determining reference templates during enrolment phase (5). Computer processing of the templates is performed, and a multimodal reference template (50) is obtained from the templates. Identification templates are determined during identification phase (6). Computer processing of the templates is performed and a multimodal identification template (60) is obtained from the templates. The multimodal identification and reference plates are compared to obtain a multimodal comparison score compared with fixed threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a system for implementing a multimodal biometric identification method, comprising a capture unit.
