Method and apparatus for correlation detection in broadband positioning systems

A receiver arrangement and method is provided for correlation detection in CDMA based communication and navigation systems. The receiver arrangement comprises a multi-correlation receiver (MCR) with a number of branches, each of which generates a different new code sequence from the received code by multiplying the original code with one or more chip delayed version(s) thereof, and determines correlation functions from the new code sequence, and further comprises an adder for combining all the correlation functions from all braches. The receiver arrangement realizes an optimum trade-off for effectively suppressing Inter Symbol Interference and Near-Far effect while obtaining reasonable output SNRs.
