The method involves applying liquid glue to one of the lateral surfaces (42a) of a rotating gravure roll (42) and then to the filter wrapper paper strip (27) from a glue distribution chamber (48), by contacting with the lateral surface of the gravure roll, without applying pressure. A doctor blade (52) is arranged to remove the excess amount of glue from one of the lateral surfaces of the gravure roll, before being delivered to the filter wrapping paper strip. An independent claim is included for glue applicator.
