PURPOSE: A composition containing Styrax Japonica Siebold et al Zuccarini fruit extract or glycoprotein isolated from the extract is provided to induce cell apoptosis and activates p53 and p21. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating liver cancer contains Styrax Japonica Siebold et al Zuccarini fruit extract or glycoprotein as an active ingredient, isolated from the extract. The glycoprotein contains 48-58 wt% of saccharides and 42-52 wt% of protein. A health food for preventing liver cancer contains the Styrax Japonica Siebold et al Zuccarini fruit extract or glycoprotein isolated from the extract. The daily dose of the active ingredient is 10-2,000 mg/kg.
