PURPOSE: A crack diagnosis device and method for a solidified shell in a mold are provided to reduce the costs for correcting a slab by scarfing on the slab in case of a longitudinal surface crack only.;CONSTITUTION: A crack diagnosis device for a solidified shell in a mold comprises a temperature sensor(110) and a control part(190). The temperature sensor includes a plurality of temperature sensing units(111) arranged in a matrix form in a mold to sense the temperature of the mold. The control part repetitively obtains the difference between the highest and lowest temperatures in each row for a set unit time and diagnoses the generation of crack in a solidified shell discharged from the mold using the average value of the temperature differences.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2012
