PURPOSE: A method for simultaneously eliminating sulfur dioxide and hydrargyrum atoms from exhaust gas is provided to efficiently oxidize hydrargyrum atoms using radicals generated from the reaction of an oxidizing agent and sulfur dioxide. CONSTITUTION: A sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution is injected into exhaust gas containing sulfur dioxide and hydrargyrum atoms in a reactor(12) to generate hypochlorous acid gas in the exhaust gas. The sulfur dioxide and the hydrargyrum are converted into sulfur trioxide and hydrargyrum oxide. A basic solution or a desulfurizing agent is injected into the resultant products to generate sulphate. The pH of the sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution is in a range between 2 and 10. The temperature of the exhaust gas is between 60 and 300 degrees Celsius. The basic solution or the desulfurizing agent is at least one selected from a group including NH_3, NaOH, CaO, Ca(OH)_2, Na_2CO_3, and NaHCO_3.
