PURPOSE: An agent for preventing or treating respiratory diseases containing Cnidii Rhizoma extract is provided to suppress airway contraction and inflammation. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating respiratory diseases contains a fraction as an active ingredient, which is prepared by extracting Cnidii Rhizoma with low alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms or 10-95% alcohol solution thereof and purifying the crude extract with ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, or butanol solvent. A functional food for preventing or treating respiratory diseases contains the fraction as an active ingredient. The administration of the composition is 0.001-500 mg/kg a day.
